Halls (Hostels in Madras Christian College) and Feminism
Feminism is a social and political movement advocating for the equality of the sexes. It seeks to address and challenge the systemic inequalities and discrimination faced by women in various aspects of life, including social, economic, and political spheres. Feminism aims to promote equal opportunities, rights, and treatment for all genders. In our college there are 3 girls hall of residence which promotes gender equality and makes them to rule in their own way.
First to consider is the feminist idea of leadership emphasizes equality, inclusivity, and a dismantling of traditional gender norms. It promotes a leadership style that values collaboration, empathy, and a recognition of diverse perspectives, challenging hierarchical structures that may perpetuate gender-based inequalities. In which the hall cabinet system makes the female resident to come into power to enhance their leadership qualities and make decisions comfortable for all the other women residents of the particular hall of residence.
The next is the feminist approaches to decision-making, there is an emphasis on inclusive and participatory processes. Decision-making is viewed as a collective effort, involving diverse voices and perspectives. Feminism advocates for breaking away from hierarchical models, promoting consensus-building, and ensuring that power dynamics are more equitable to avoid reinforcing traditional gender roles. The hall cabinet collectively take decision regarding the hall activities in consultation with the warden of the hall for the betterment and preparation for any particular occasions.
Feminist and empowerment theories are especially important to the understanding of individual and socio political levels of social work assessment and intervention. Incorporating feminist and empowerment approaches in practice will provide social workers with the knowledge, values and skills most likely to promote human rights and social justice.
